New Hampshire Welcomes New Charter Schools and Celebrates New Approvals
The NH Alliance for Public Charter Schools is excited to announce the approval of a new charter for Breakthrough Academy Chartered Public School, set to open its doors to students in the 2025-2026 academic year. Breakthrough Academy, located in the Mt. Washington Valley area, joins a growing list of innovative charter schools in New Hampshire that offer unique educational opportunities tailored to the needs and aspirations of students and
families.
Breakthrough Academy Chartered Public School combines competency-based education within an agriculture learning environment. It is designed to provide a transformative learning environment focused on academic excellence, character development, and community engagement. The school will be accepting applications in the coming year and is looking forward to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning community when it opens.
In addition, the 2024-2025 school year welcomes the opening of two new charter schools:
Seacoast Classical Academy and Synergy Academy. Both schools have launched with a mission to provide quality education and alternative learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs:
● Seacoast Classical Academy, located in Newton, offers a curriculum grounded in the classical education model, emphasizing critical thinking, literature, history, and the arts.
● Synergy Academy, located in Concord, focuses on innovative, competency-based, project-based and experiential learning methodologies to inspire students to be active participants in their education.
Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 academic year, two additional schools, Wellheart Charter School and North Star Academy, are also set to open:
● Wellheart Charter School, situated in the Amherst area, will focus on holistic education by integrating social-emotional learning and wellness practices. Drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, the school aims to create a balanced and nurturing learning environment that supports the overall development of each student.
● North Star Academy, located in Ossipee, will deliver a classical education grounded in Socratic principles. Emphasizing research-based learning, the school focuses on deriving insights from original sources to foster a deep and nuanced understanding of diverse subjects.
Charter schools in New Hampshire are public schools that operate independently of the
traditional school district system, providing greater flexibility in their educational approaches
while remaining accountable to state standards and goals. With the addition of these new
schools, New Hampshire continues to expand its charter school network, offering diverse and
innovative learning environments for students.
